Say La V: A Song on Country Radio and a Dance in My Head

Sometimes inspiration arrives when you least expect it. With Say La V, all it took was hearing the music on the radio.

I loved the song and started imagining how it might work as a line dance. Before long, I was putting the steps together and turning that idea into a 32-count, four-wall absolute beginner dance.

There's something special about that moment when a song sparks an idea. You start playing around with steps, trying different combinations and working out how to make everything fit. It's one of the reasons I enjoy choreography so much.

I also had fun teaching Say La V to my Absolute Beginners. They picked it up quickly, even with the two quarter-turn Montereys at the start. It's always rewarding to see a new dance go from an idea in your head to something other people can enjoy.

One interesting part of this dance has been the conversation around the music and AI. I discovered that the track was AI-generated, which got me thinking about creativity and where ideas come from. For me, the important part is that there's a human choosing the music, shaping the dance and deciding what to create with it. I still love a classic country song too, and Joe Nichols certainly has a place on my playlist.
