I was keen to keep learning and experimenting with choreography. Then Luke Watson shared a theory for success with putting a dance together in just eight minutes, and I was intrigued!
I decided to give it a go with Sleepless in a Hotel Room by Luke Combs. The idea was to stop overthinking every step, work with the music and see what I could create.
It was a great reminder that sometimes a simple approach is all you need to get started. You can always refine things as you go, but getting the first version out of your head and onto the floor is a big part of the process.
The result was a 32-count beginner dance with a mixture of travelling steps, coaster steps, pivots and a jazz box to finish the sequence.
I was also getting quicker at the practical side of things, including preparing and submitting the stepsheet to CopperKnob. Compared with my first dance, it felt good to be making progress.
Choreography is a learning journey, and I'm enjoying discovering what works for me, one song at a time.
