May was mayhem… the fun kind, of course!
May kicked off with the International Line Dance Flashmob. There’s something pretty special about knowing that dancers all around the world are doing the same dances at the same time. No matter where you are, you’re part of something bigger, and that sense of connection never gets old. This year we had Hoedown and Heel Toe Rodeo.
Next up was our first Friday party of the month. This time the theme was all about Emily, who was celebrating the big 4-0 later in the month. I dressed up as Emily from the Fourth of July themed party held in 2025. Dressing up, dancing, laughing and celebrating - that's what these nights are all about.
The Clive Bootscootin crew packed up our boots and headed down to Woodville to celebrate Ruahine Line Dancers' 10th birthday. As always, it was wonderful catching up with familiar faces and sharing a dance floor with friends from around the country. It amazes me how this community continues to grow and how many friendships have been formed through a shared love of music and movement.
To round out the month, we shared some good times with Kiwi Country Line Dancers for their end-of-month social and Saturday night drop-in session. It was a fantastic weekend of dancing,
I felt incredibly humbled when two of my own dances, Sleepless in a Hotel Room and Stomping Ground, were played.
There’s something surreal about standing on the side of the floor and watching people enjoy something that started out as an idea in your head. A few scribbled notes, lots of trial and error, and suddenly there are dancers out there bringing those steps to life. Moments like that remind me just how grateful I am for the support and encouragement I've received along this journey.
There was so much practice for the Christchurch Comp coming up in August. Lily and I have choreographed our duo entry, and us as well as Bex, Vic and Tee are entering the teams comp - another dance we have choreographed together. Its going to be all on practicing for the coming months.
And somewhere in amongst all the dancing, laughter, road trips and birthday celebrations, May disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Reflection
May reminded me that community really is at the heart of line dancing.
The dances are wonderful, but it's the people who make the memories. From celebrating birthdays and milestones to travelling together and cheering one another on, I've realised that the greatest gift this journey has given me isn't just confidence or choreography.
It's friendship.
And I don't think that's something I'll ever take for granted.
