December turned out to be anything but quiet! The month kicked off with teaching a session at the International Day of People with Disabilities, which was such a rewarding experience. We joined our friends at the Napier Clubs not once, but twice this month, and a huge shoutout to the lovely Wendy for hosting her birthday line dance celebration – so much laughter and energy.
The summer gear was out for our beach-themed Christmas party, I did sneak away from for a few hours to help teach a church group which was a blast! Then the very next night, we joined hubby’s work do. Several of his colleagues are line dance enthusiasts, so we took to the floor for Bang Bang and a few other dances - a fun night of music and movement!
We had a stomping good time at the Rose Irish Bar in Napier later in the month, listening to The Irish Gnomes play live. They even learnt Irish Pub Song on the spot so we could all dance together - a total highlight!
Reflection on December & 2025
Looking back on the past year, it’s incredible to see how far this line dancing journey has taken me. 2025 has been full of adventures, challenges, and unforgettable memories:
Teaching & Learning: From running beginner workshops back-to-back with 30 odd people in a class, to teaching at Hens parties, church groups, birthdays, and community events.
Travel & Performances: Trips to Tauranga, Kawerau, Mahanga, Gisborne, Whakatāne, and attending festivals like the Wairarapa Country Music Festival. Performing at the Hawke’s Bay A & P Show and pop-up performances have been highlights. It's so much fun travelling with a group of people, so many different backgrounds, ages and at varying stages in life - but we just all get on!
Milestones: Achieving my goal from November 2024 of becoming a line dance instructor, creating the Boots Were Made for Talking Podcast with Bex, and entering my first line dance competition - coming up in Feb 2026.
Friendships & Connections: Expanding my circle of friends locally and including choreographers, instructors, and line dancers across NZ and Australia. So many laughs, shared adventures, and moments on the dance floor that I’ll never forget.
This year has taught me that it’s not about what you have, but who you surround yourself with. The memories, the friendships, and the shared joy of dance are what make it all worthwhile.
