Great Walks & Deco Boots

February was unforgettable. Bex and I completed the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk – four days of hiking, swimming in the lake and waterfall, climbing trees, endless laughter, and, of course, line dancing in the bush. We busted out Merry Go Round, You Look Like You Love Me, Raised Like That, and Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off, turning the forest into our dance floor. Don’t recommend barefoot dancing in the dark as a routine activity!

Earlier in the month in Hawke’s Bay, it was time for the famous Napier Art Deco Weekend. For the first time in nearly eight years, I dressed up for it – granted, I paired my outfit with cowboy boots (naturally!). I headed out with our line dancing crew, joined by some of the Rhythm ’n Lines crew from Gisborne and had a ball.

Reflection
So many reflections this month:

  • Confidence isn’t about fitting into the mould – it’s about showing up as yourself, boots and all.

  • Movement, music, and friendship make life so much richer.

  • The hard slog is worth it to get to your destination and life’s adventures are even sweeter when you can dance your way through them with friends.
